Settle it fromtwelve yards

A penalty shootout you play on your own time. You take your five, your friend answers whenever they open the link, and the whole thing plays back as one shootout.

How a challenge runs

1

Take your five

Pick shooter or keeper, then work through five penalties one at a time. Every pick locks the moment you make it.

2

Send the challenge

Choose a friend, or drop in an email or phone number. They get a link that puts them on the other side of the ball.

3

Watch it play out

Once both of you have picked, the shootout runs end to end and the result lands in both inboxes.

How it is decided

  • The goal is split into nine zones. The shooter picks one, the keeper picks one.
  • Guess the exact zone and it is a save every time.
  • Dive one zone away and you still reach a placed shot more often than not, but rarely a blasted one.
  • Blasting is the safer way past a hand, though the four corners carry a real risk of flying wide.
  • Five penalties decide it. The shooter needs four goals to win, so two stops is enough for the keeper.

Nobody has to be online

Your picks are sealed until both sides are in. Your keeper cannot see where you aimed, and you cannot see which way they dived, until the shootout runs.
